Tra i comuni di Monticiano e Civitella Paganico, lungo il corso del fiume Farma, sorgono le terme di Petriolo. Esse erano conosciute già in epoca romana, ma è nel 400 d.C. che venne costruito il primo complesso termale in muratura. Vennero spesso usate da esponenti della famiglia dei Medici oltre che dal Papa Pio II.
Le acque termali sgorgano ad una temperatura di 43° c e sono curative per reumatismi, malattie respiratorie e problemi della pelle, le acque termali sono disponibili sia liberamente, nei corsi d’acqua naturali, che presso gli stabilimenti termali attrezzati. Esse sono meta privilegiata di numerosi turisti provenienti anche dall’estero.
In prossimità delle Terme, si trova l’antica Fonte delle Caldanelle. Un tempo, in questo luogo, le donne dei paesi limitrofi, in particolar modo di Pari, andavano a far macerare la ginestra nelle acque sulfuree.
Between the municipalities of Monticiano and Civitella Paganico, along the river Farma, there are the Thermal baths of Petriolo. They were already known in Roman times, but it was in 400 b.C. that the first thermal complex was built. They were often used by members of the Medici family as well as by Pope Pio II.
The thermal waters gush out at a temperature of 43¡C and they are curative for rheumatisms, respiratory diseases and skin problems. The thermal waters are available freely, both in natural water courses and at the equipped thermal establishments. They are a favourite destination for lots of tourists coming even from abroad.
Near the Baths there is the ancient source of The Caldanelle. Once upon a time, in this place, the women from the neighbouring villages, especially from Pari, went to make the broom macerate in the sulfurous waters.
