Il complesso sorse come castello in epoca mediovale ed era originariamente un possedimento dell’abbazia di San Galgano presso Siena.In seguito, la struttura venne trasformata in un convento, che andò sviluppandosi presso la pievedi Sant’Ippolito a Martura rimasta in funzione almeno fino alla fine del XIV secolo. Successivamente, la struttura divenne proprietà privata e, nel tardo XVII secolo, venne ristrutturata dai marchesi che la Patrizi trasformarono in una caratteristica fattoria fortificata. Il complesso si sviluppa su tre corpi di fabbrica disposti su altrettanti lati attorno ad un cortile interno a pianta quadrangolare, a cui si accede attraverso una caratteristica porta ad arco che si apre lungo la cortina muraria che chiude il lato privo di corpi di fabbrica. Ad ogni angolo è presente una torre, che in passato svolgeva funzioni di avvistamento. Delle quattro torri, due si sono ben conservate. Il castello di Colle Massari è attualmente sede di una rinomata e prestigiosa azienda agricola.
The complex was built as a castle in the Middle Ages and was originally a possession of the Abbey of San Galgano near Siena. Later, the structure was transformed into a convent, which developed at the parish church of Sant’Ippolito a Martura, which remained in operation until at least the end of the 14th century. Subsequently, the structure became private property and, in the late seventeenth century, it was renovated by the Marquises who turned it into a characteristic fortified farm. The complex is spread over three buildings arranged on two sides around a quadrangular courtyard, which is accessed through a characteristic arched door that opens along the wall that closes the side without the bodies of the factory. At each corner there is a tower, which in the past carried out sighting functions. Of the four towers, two have been well preserved. The castle of Colle Massari is currently home to a renowned and prestigious farm.
